Small Bathroom Design Ideas

Small bathrooms can be super fun to decorate, allowing you to get creative and think outside the box. In fact, there’s so many fantastic designs you can play around with in a small bathroom that you wouldn’t be able to get away with in a larger space.

Custom bathroom vanity cabinets can make a small bathroom appear much larger than it actually is. Learn about all the different small bathroom vanity design ideas you could use in your next bathroom renovation.

Floating Bathroom Vanity

Floating vanities are stylish yet functional, offering you style and great storage options. The best thing about them is that they’re built right into your wall and look like they’re, well, floating. The empty space underneath the vanity can be used for storing baskets, laundry, or toiletries, giving you much more space to work. You can take up this space with baskets or boxes, whichever complements your decor, creating a functional yet beautiful space.

If you want to go a step further, you can customize the vanity so that it has drawers, cubbies, or cupboards built into the design. The space for the sink can also be customized, depending on whether you want something that sits on top of the vanity or is nestled into the wood. This is where you’d connect with your designer and discuss what’s possible and what’s within your budget.

Vanity Sets

If you have a small bathroom and you want to maximize on storage while keeping a cohesive design idea, vanity sets are the way to go. A vanity set is an independent unit that stands on the ground and has a sink installed on the top. It can have four legs attached to the bottom, or it can be a flat on the ground. Personal preference will dictate how you want the vanity set to look, but remember that the more negative space you have, the more storage options you’ll have.

Vanity sets include drawers or cupboards built into the module piece, and they sometimes have additional matching pieces. For example, you can ask your designer to create a vanity set that sits on the floor, and also ask if they can create a matching floating cupboard to the right of it, where you can store towels and other bathroom items.

Corner Vanities

A great space saver, especially if your bathroom has awkward shapes or dimensions. Corner vanities can be custom built into a wall and add a distinctive flare to your home. Play around with different designs to make these special creations work for you. Consider how you can play around with different shapes — just because the vanity is built into the corner of the room, doesn’t mean it has to look angular.

You can design the front piece so that it’s concave, adding soft curves to the design. Or if you want to stretch your creative muscles, think about how you can play with the angles. Maybe you can invert the angle completely and design the vanity so that it resembles a corner bookcase. With custom designs, nothing is off the table!

Vanities with Hidden Drawers and Cubbies

In addition to designing either a vanity set, a corner vanity, or a floating vanity, you can customize even further by adding hidden drawers and cubbies. This is especially useful to fill out any awkward space or alcove that is tricky to work around. If part of your wall has a strange corner, or there’s a dip in a portion of the floor, don’t try to hide it — use it to your advantage!

Toe-kick drawers are a great example, as they are small, flat drawers that easily pull out from underneath a vanity. False drawers that tip out and reveal a tray are great for makeup or smaller items like toothpaste and razors. Hidden double drawers are a neat way to capitalize on storage, especially if you have a small bathroom. Finally, adding custom storage options to the backs of cabinets, like trays or hooks, can help you save big on storage.

Small Rooms, Big Designs

Just because you have a small bathroom doesn’t mean you have to compromise on storage and design. There are plenty of creative designs that you can work with to really make the most of your small bathroom, and working with a custom cabinet maker will help you make the best decisions for your space.
